Learn lessons from 1MDB debacle
BY: LYNDY ANG
Malaysians have yet to recover from the pain and suffering they have had to endure in the 1MDB scandal and many recoil in horror at the revelations of how blatantly the wealth of the rakyat was frittered away by the top brass of this country.
While Malaysians put their trust in elected leaders, they were betrayed and it is important for the nation not to repeat the mistake again but it looks like the lessons have not been learnt and there has to be another debacle or crisis to teach us.
Since the wealth from the 1MDB sovereign fund has been siphoned there has now been a swelling in the numbers of Malaysians who form the B40 group as people are now poorer for not being wise and prudent in electing national leaders.
Those in the B40 group have been inflicted with much suffering and hardship and they cringe in agony to witness how the crooks who ripped them off live lavishly and how most of the culprits are scot free from punishment.
The cry for justice in this country has not been heard by the authorities and the powers that be, instead, to add insult to injury, Malaysians watch in despair as they find the cost of living rising beyond their control.
If Malaysians do not learn and wisen up and wake up from their stupor this country will backslide into a failed state and the damage done will be irreversible for generations and this is why they must pay heed to the lessons learnt from 1MDB.
