Global South to balance the equation of power
Malaysia believes the empowerment of a Global South would balance the equation of power in the region as total trade between Malaysia and India rose to amount to RM72.31 billion in the year 2023.
This has caused Malaysian prime minister, Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, to secure potential trade worth RM8 billion on a recent visit to India which is a big boost for bilateral ties between the two countries
The investments are in the sectors of palm oil and its derivatives, chemicals and chemical products, oil and gas as well as aircraft spare parts from various sectors and companies in the South Asian country.
Datuk Anwar stated to Malaysian media that 168 investment projects valued at RM4.5 billion were implemented by India up to March 2024 which is expected to create around 17,000 job opportunities for Malaysians.
In his latest visit to India, Datuk Anwar disclosed that eight Memorandum of Understandings or MOUs were signed between the Malaysian and Indian governments as well as seven business to business MOUs between the two countries.
Datuk Anwar stated that ties between the two countries were blossoming and both parties also agreed to boost comprehensive partnerships in many areas of commerce and industry including digital technology, tourism, education, research and culture.
