Netizen campaigns for boycott of English language
BY: AIN IBRAHIM
A lone wolf, acting in his personal capacity, has stirred controversy on social media platforms among netizens by calling for a boycott of the use and study of the English language which has angered many people.
Many netizens opined that this is a backward step and would cause a lot of problems among Malaysians if the boycott is successful and the netizen further stated that there was absolutely no use in studying Mathematics and Science.
Not only are these backward ideas, it also reeks and is suggestive that this person is absolutely clueless as to what he hopes to achieve and he needs to be aware that what actually would eventually take place is that Malaysians would be sharing in poverty.
Instead of sharing in prosperity, these moves by the netizen run contradictory to the spectre of globalization which has chosen and selected the English language as the medium of communication among the world’s population.
Unfortunately, it is not the Malay language, Mandarin or Tamil that the world has chosen but English as a unifying language and all the information you need on the Internet is readily available in the English language.
This is why it doesn’t pay to swim against the tide or go against the grain but to be compliant and submissive to the international standing and use of the English language which unites the people of the world and makes for easier, better communication and understanding.
