Learning from global tech crisis
BY: LYNDY ANG
Many now realise the importance of a robust backup system as a global tech crisis, triggered by a faulty update from CrowdStrike, serves as a stark reminder for businesses and providers of essential services.
Yet there are others who contend whether the outage also raised concerns that such incidents could originate not only from a genuine technical glitch, such as the CrowdStrike incident, but also from moves by people with ill intent.
Experts advise business operators to have a comprehensive backup plan such as alternate technology or multi cloud providers in order to minimize the impact of technical glitches and for seamless usage by businesses.
They suggest that companies regularly stimulate digital disaster scenarios to understand the real impact of such a glitch and to always have an alternate system ready for them to be prepared to fall back on.
One IT expert contends that a safe and effective way of ensuring that the operations of a business will never be disrupted is to regularly and frequently review and carry out drills relating to a company’s disaster recovery plan.
He stated that businesses are too dependent on a single technology, which not only increases the risk of failure but also reveals the fragility and vulnerability of the digital ecosystem, which could lead to major issues for businesses.
