While the issue of whether there exists or whether unity is being practised in Malaysian schools cropped up among the stakeholders of education, the bare fact is that unity must thrive in schools for the betterment of the country.
There are broad accusations hurled by ill informed and racists Malay groups and Islamic extremists and other lunatic fringe groups that vernacular schools such as Chinese and Tamil schools do not promote unity.
Chinese and Tamil schools take a more stricter and serious approach to education and their standards are considered high and they brook no nonsense unlike government schools that advocate lower standards to cater to all and sundry.
Any right thinking person, who is not biased, prejudiced or malicious will readily concede that the atmosphere among the major races in vernacular schools are cordial and healthy and there can be no doubt whatsoever that these schools promote unity.
There have been a number of social media postings in the alternative media that highlight racial polarization in schools and while this is markedly true they are a rarity rather than the norm and it is suggested that these problems be nipped in the bud.
Allowing racial polarization to manifest itself and to fester will go against the principles and concept of Madani which calls for the inclusivity of all races and for there to be combined peace and harmony and unity among all Malaysians.
