In a recent address to the nation which was televised live on many media channels, Malaysian prime minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim commented on a number of wide ranging issues of concern to Malaysians especially endemic corruption.
Anwar stated that corruption and the gathering and build up of political will to fight it was a grave and serious concern to him and presently corruption and the economy were his twin prong major concerns for now.
Like the assessment of former prime minister, Mahathir Mohammad, Anwar acknowledged that corruption in the country was endemic and there was a dire and critical need to tackle the issue before it becomes a major crisis.
He stated that corruption, if left unchecked, can spell the downfall of the nation and this is why, under his Madani administration, it should not be allowed to carry on but must be eradicated whatever the cost.
He assured Malaysians that no one who is corrupt was above the law and it did not matter the rank, title or position of the corrupt, they will be hauled up by the relevant law enforcement agencies and be asked to give their account of their corruption.
If nothing is done by him and his administration, then Malaysia is set to become a failed state and this is why there is a need for great urgency to ensure that corruption is eliminated and brought under control.
