A tribute to all teachers
BY: MAY FOONG
On May 16, every year, all over the world, Teacher’s Day is celebrated by students and their parents and others and the day was set aside to mark the importance of teachers in their role in education.
Someone once commented that ” a teacher is actually more important than the parents because a teacher imparts knowledge and helps the student build his or her future while parents only provide all the student’s earthly needs.”
While these sort of comments are growing in number it must be stated very firmly that a teacher should never be allowed to supersede the role that parents play. The roles of both teacher and parents differ but are equally important.
But the fact that these kinds of comments and beliefs are making the rounds highlights how important a role a teacher plays in moulding the minds and personality and character of their students.
Now that this is something that is realised by more people, it is important that students only have the best and most competent teachers to lead and direct them in their schooling life so as to be able to fulfill their dreams and aspirations.
Perhaps on this Teacher’s Day it is timely that all the stakeholders involved in educating the young be screened and evaluated thoroughly before a teacher is allowed to set foot in a classroom for only the best to be in this noble profession.
