It was actually the ‘kerajaan gagal’ or failed government of former prime minister Ismail Sabri who initiated and mooted the idea of offering protection, safety and security for vulnerable and weak groups in the country.
Although seen as a grandiose idea voiced by Ismail Sabri, it is really one of the few good ideas of his failed government, but as anticipated and expected by many Malaysians, the grand scheme did not take off.
Perhaps now the unity government of Anwar Ibrahim can earn brownie points by putting in place laws and regulations and assistance to the OKU or disabled, single parents, seniors, women and children, the LGBT community, the poor, the needy and the homeless.
These marginalized and disadvantaged groups should be shielded and offered protection and security from the elements of life that threaten and cause them to become oppressed and downtrodden.
It is especially after the Covid 19 pandemic and the economic hardship suffered by many Malaysians that the numbers of these weak and vulnerable groups began to swell and now has become of growing concern to people who care.
Since Malaysia prides itself in being a caring society, it is really how the down and out of society is taken care of that is the real yardstick of how caring a nation the people of this country are and an indicator of humanitarian values.
