No honor among thieves
BY: VASANTHA KUMAR
Now that the financial scandals by former leaders are being brought into the open by the authorities, prime minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has instructed all law enforcement agencies to leave no stone unturned in their investigations.
Malaysians are aghast and astonished by the personages implicated in corruption which includes Mahathir Mohammad, his family, Daim Zainuddin and wife, Muhyiddin Yassin, Ismail Sabri, Hishamuddin Tun Hussein Onn being among them.
This certainly looks like the tip of the iceberg as many others are expected to be hauled up for questioning and it certainly looks as if Anwar Ibrahim is at work to dismantle the deep state that has been established by rogue politicians and civil servants.
In the past the modus operandi of these accused corrupt officials could be hidden as they backed each other and supported each other but now that the can of worms has opened up there appears to be no honor among these alleged thieves.
In initial and preliminary probes, it looks like these corrupt officials have siphoned billions of ringgit belonging to the people and country and this is the reason why most Malaysians are having to live hand to mouth.
If buttering their bread is difficult for Malaysians now, Anwar needs to get to the bottom of dismantling the deep state and recover all the lost billions of ringgit and distribute it equitably among the people and for use in nation building.
