Attracting tourists to Sarawak in 2024

The Sarawak Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts Ministry describes the state as not only rich in flora and fauna, ethnic and cultural diversity, but making these features its strengths in attracting visitors.
The ministry stated that culture, adventure, nature and food festivals are usually marketed widely to attract visitors and tourists and the state will continue to emphasise on these attractions as people flock for it.
Last year, more than 3.5 million tourists arrivals were recorded by the state and this year the main impetus for Sarawak is to draw over four million tourists by having add on attractions and events in the state.
The ministry wants to focus on a tourism strategy with an emphasis on responsible and sustainable practices and to cater to a demographic profile that has potential spending power and are able to stay longer.
On its part, the Sarawak Tourism Board (STB) undertook bolder and more aggressive strategies and measures in marketing the state and will continue to do so at the international level in preparation for Visit Malaysia Year 2026.
STB strategies include focusing on eco tourism, prioritizing unique and responsible experiences involving sustainable infrastructure development to balance tourism growth with the region’s natural beauty.
