Is Mahathir next on the MACC radar?

Speculation is rife in the political scenario that former Malaysian prime minister and dictator, Mahathir Mohammad, is under scrutiny by the Malaysian Anti Corruption Commission (MACC) as a person of interest for corrupt acts, abuse of power and wrongdoings.

From time to time, and for decades, Mahathir has been implicated and accusations and allegations made against him in a number of high profile scandals and he has managed to remain unscathed but is the day of reckoning looming now.

Sources say that following the seizure of assets owned by former finance minister, Daim Zainuddin and his family, the charges filed against Muhyiddin Yassin, a former prime minister and the incarceration of Najib Tun Abul Razak, Mahathir is the next target.

But Malaysians are watching carefully and monitoring how current prime minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and MACC throw the book at Mahathir who still has a lot of political clout and influence in this country.

In the past there didn’t seem to be the political will nor the stamina to confront Mahathir although there were calls for investigations to be made against him or even the setting up of a Royal Commission of Inquiry.

All of these attempts came to nought. But it looks this time around that Anwar is hell bent on retrieving the wealth of the nation pilfered by corrupt leaders of the past and to seek to equitably distribute these monies back to the rakyat.
