Online reporting of crimes against children
An online reporting system that allows children to report crimes committed against them while using the Internet is being constructed and should be ready next year to protect and ensure the safety and well being of the young.
According to the Prime Minister’s Department (Law and Institutional Reform), this online reporting system for children is to ensure they have access to a system that does not discriminate against them.
In this respect, a Child Commissioner’s Office is to be set up to monitor the online complaints and to set up a better system for less under reporting and also the fear of reporting by a child for worry of shame or reprisal.
The Child Commissioner’s Office is to come up with the framework and work together with other relevant agencies for children to voice crimes committed against them and to be also able to report without fear or favour.
The government is committed to creating a digital space where children can not only thrive but are empowered and safe by implementing child centric approaches into Malaysia’s cybersecurity arena.
Safeguarding children and fostering a culture where children feel empowered to voice their concerns in the ever expanding digital landscape should be considered an initiative of paramount importance to all.
