Malaysia to provide housing for all

In response to the rallying calls of many Malaysians, the Anwar administration using Perbadanan PRIMA Malaysia is expected to complete 9,500 affordable housing units by the end of this year, according to the Local Government Development Ministry.

PRIMA is the largest affordable housing developer in the country and there are growing calls by Malaysians who don’t own properties to encourage more private developers to venture into building affordable homes.

While these calls are expected, there is a reluctance by most developers to consider building affordable homes in their development projects as the profit margin is not very high and acts as a deterrent to them.

But there are pleas by many Malaysians to these private developers to settle for marginal profits and build affordable homes as a form of community service in return for making great gains from their development projects.

PRIMA will also undertake to complete all the 24 sick projects it took over from the previous administration as a gesture of goodwill and sincerity in ensuring that as many Malaysians as possible can own their own homes.

The Local Government Development Ministry stated that the government is committed to building around 500,000 affordable houses by 2025 under the 12th Malaysia Plan in an effort to ease the shortage of housing in the country.
