SK KUBANG GOLOK, KELANTAN EMERGES AS INTEL® GEEK KIDS COMPETITION CHAMPION

Intel Malaysia Hosts Intel® Geek Kids Competition to Promote STEM Education

Intel Malaysia’s Intel® Geek Kids competition was held on 7th October 2023 in conjunction with the #mydigitalmaker fair 2023 at Quill City Mall, Kuala Lumpur. The initiative is aimed at nurturing an interest in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) among primary school students in underserved communities in Malaysia. The programme, running in collaboration with Penang Science Cluster, first kicked off in May 2023, and 18 workshops have been conducted involving over 879 students and 251 teachers across 145 schools in 8 states. 

AK Chong, Vice President – Manufacturing, Supply Chain and Operations, and Managing Director of Intel Malaysia, and Ts. Nik Naharudin Bin Mohd Nasir, Director of Talent & Capability, MDEC, awarded the winners at the event: 

  • Champion – Smart Barter Bin From Sk Kubang Golok, Kelantan; 
  • 1st Runner-Up – Flood Alarm System From Sk Telok Kalong, Terengganu; 
  • 2nd Runner-Up – Smart Telegram Attendance From Sk Permatang Pauh, Pulau Pinang.

The winning entry, Smart Barter Bin, educates children about responsible waste disposal, featuring a rubbish bin that dispenses sweets in return, which impressed both judges and visitors. 104 teams from all around the country participated in this year’s competition.

1st Runner-up – SK Telok Kalong, Terengganu – Flood Alarm System

Flood Alarm System to alert residents when water levels rise to a critical level, giving residents enough time to save their lives and valuables.

2nd Runner-up – SK Permatang Pauh, Pulau Pinang – Smart Telegram Attendance

Smart Telegram Attendance simplifies the recording process of student attendance without the physical presence of a teacher. Instead, data is sent directly to the class teacher’s Telegram app.
