Universiti Teknologi Mara’s School of Media and Information Warfare Studies has called upon the ‘orang semenanjung’ or people in Peninsular Malaysia to look east to Sabah and Sarawak and emulate their unity in diversity.

This follows His Majesty the Yang Di Pertuan Agong Al Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al Mustafa Billah Shah’s successful tour of Borneo where he was impressed by the solidarity and the peace and harmony among the people.

Universiti Teknologi Mara’s faculty stated that what was easily evident in Sabah and Sarawak is that they are governed in such a way that cultures, ethnic values, beliefs and ideas are used to unite rather than separate the people.

This is why the faculty exhorts Peninsular Malaysia politicians not to cross the line and to develop a common understanding within the useful and helpful context of the Federal Constitution and Rukun Negara.

They caution that Sabah and Sarawak must be politically stable and maintain their racial, religious and cultural unity and not be influenced by the toxic politics of race baiting which is present in West Malaysia.

The faculty also suggests that respecting all ethnicities, cultures and values of the people of different races and religions will promote understanding and peace and stable politics instead of race baiting.
