On August 31, 1957, Stadium Merdeka was the site where the country’s independence was declared and as the nation developed and progressed the Merdeka 118 Tower was built to testify of a towering achievement.
As the nation took infantile steps in the beginning, it has now chalked up phenomenal growth since 1957 and Merdeka 118, which is owned by Permodalan Nasional Bhd (PNB), is a landmark symbol of the nation coming of age.
The iconic building is set to open its doors at the end of this year with PNB, as the owner of Merdeka 118, taking up 17 floors of the tower which has 3.1 million sq ft of floor space and the highest observation deck in Southeast Asia.
Once fully completed in 2027, Merdeka 118 will feature the state of the art tower standing at 678.9m that will transform the area into premium office buildings, hotels, a mall, residences, a heritage site, museum and mosque.
Merdeka 118 is the second tallest building in the world, after the Burj Khalifa at 828m in Dubai, United Arab Emirates and consists of 18,000 glass panels that make up the tower’s crystalline facade.
The development has a gross value of RM7 billion and is designed by Melbourne based Fender Katsalidis and will also feature an ‘Edge Walk’ for thrill seekers who can harness up safely and walk on a glass floor.
