Alternative tourism ideas for Golden Week
In recent years, China’s Golden Week, from Oct 1 to 7, which commemorates its National Day holiday, has become a means of promoting travel and a major attraction for the Chinese is to make their way to Malaysia.
Malaysia holds a deep and fascinating interest for Chinese tourists and this is the reason the Malaysian tourism players are urging the government to organize promotions and activities to cater to them.
According to the Malaysian Association of Tour and Travel Agents (MATTA), Malaysia is popular with Chinese tourists and suggests teaching them Malaysian dances or visiting padi fields, food farms and durian orchards.
Other activities that can be organized for them include visiting Taman Negara, participating in
sporting activities, visiting hill stations like Genting Highlands and Cameron Highlands and the other highlands in the country.
The government needs to come up with enterprising ideas as even Malaysia Airlines gears to receive the Chinese and North Asian markets which have reopened to about 90 percent of pre pandemic levels.
The Malaysia Inbound Chinese Association noted that Chinese travel patterns have changed towards smaller, more compact group tours who are looking for high end accommodation and they like to book flights and hotels individually.
