Expanding the Rukun Negara culture

Veteran politician and now social activist, Tan Sri Lee Lam Thye, lauded the move by the Education Ministry to expand the Rukun Negara culture in schools to strengthen unity among the younger generation.

According to the Education Ministry this is to be done through Rukun Negara clubs of which at present there are 6,849 and Tan Sri Lee added that teachers must be appropriately trained as ‘agents of unity’.

Tan Sri Lee praised the Education Ministry initiative and hoped that it will help nurture responsible citizens who truly understand the importance of unity, mutual respect and moral values in a multiracial and multicultural nation.

He stated that students must be adept at reciting the five Rukun Negara principles which is Belief in God, Loyalty to the King and Country, Upholding the Constitution, The Rule of Law and Good Behaviour and Morality.

Tan Sri Lee stated that students must be made aware of the objectives of the Rukun Negara principles which is to foster better unity among society, preserve democracy, create a just society and to build a progressive society.

Tan Sri Lee opined that the Rukun Negara is really the bedrock of the nation and the five principles were introduced as a guide to Malaysians to live in peace and harmony and to adopt a give and take attitude among the rakyat.
