As election fever grips six states of the nation, Malaysian individuals, civic community leaders and organizations are calling for free and fair polls and urge the relevant authorities to be vigilant in monitoring the elections.
Malaysians especially want the PDRM or police force, the MACC or Malaysian Anti Corruption Commission and the EC or Election Commission to act as the main watchdogs while calling on voters to be their eyes and ears.
While so far, thankfully, there have been no ugly or untoward incidents and everything appears to be smooth sailing to the run up to the August 12 elections, concerned voters are urging the authorities to take nothing for granted.
While early surveys by independent poll groups show the Pakatan and Barisan Nasional alliance to be ahead, things can change and this is why Malaysians are keeping their fingers crossed for a continuation of the unity government.
The unity government which has been in power since late November 2022 has gone to the ground and worked hard to establish a formidable presence but the opposition is hopeful of causing an upset.
But the aces seem to be up the sleeve of Malaysian prime minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim who has the advantage of proving his credentials to stay in office by delivering on election promises and manifestos.
