The commitment of world renown automotive companies to produce Electric Vehicles (EVs) in Malaysia such as Geely and Tesla is set to make the nation a leader in EVs in South East Asia with government support for an EV ecosystem.
The Malaysian Automotive Association (MAA) stated the two automakers with vast global experience and access to leading technologies should be able to introduce new ideas and ways of doing business for the automotive sector.
The MAA stated that electrification means a change in vehicle components as the high tech Research & Development will be geared towards battery manufacturing and other specialized components for EVs.
MAA also stated that the industry is expected to adopt new skillsets and infrastructure suited for varying degrees of electrification from hybrids to full EVs besides reskilling or upskilling the automotive workforce.
Malaysia is a major electrical and electronics manufacturing hub in South East Asia and automakers and investors in the automotive industry will be able to seamlessly leverage on the supply chains.
Besides this, with the right government support, the components sub sector can be capitalized on to service the whole automotive value chain covering semiconductors, sensors, automotive electronics, transceivers, batteries and vehicle assembly.
