Anwar must dismantle the deep state
BY: AIN IBRAHIM
If Malaysian prime minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim (DSAI) is to prevent the nation from going under or become a failed state he must make serious efforts to start to dismantle the intricate web of the deep state in government.
Malaysia’s civil service is eighty five percent manned by Malay Muslims and over the decades since the first tenure of former prime minister, Mahathir Mohammad, a deep state has evolved and is now deeply entrenched in government.
It is the deep state that is now standing in the way and acting as a major stumbling block towards DSAI’s bid to wipe out and eradicate corruption and independent observers are carefully monitoring how the prime minister will act.
Act he must. DSAI must be brave and bold and make his stand known that he will not brook any form of corruption however cunningly it is conceived, as if he does not, this fractured nation is set to fail.
While DSAI is faced with this formidable challenge, it is obvious that decisions he makes in the process of dismantling the deep state are not only set to make him unpopular but civil servants might retaliate against him.
But push has come to shove now and no matter how daunting the task is for DSAI he must skillfully work and maneuver through the deep state and negate its effects on a long suffering nation.
