In what many Malaysians see as a fitting retribution, former Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) vice president, Zuraida Kamaruddin was asked by the High Court to pay RM10 million in damages for breaching a bond of agreement with the political party.
Besides this, she has to pay a further RM50,000 in legal costs and many Malaysians who are sick and tired and fed up with the antics of politicians who are disloyal to their party believe that she fully deserves it.
Zuraida’s fall from grace should be a lesson for all Malaysian politicians that the turbulent waters of the present political scenario is unforgiving and merciless towards politicians who jump ship and therefore this should serve as an education for all politicians.
Politicians of all stripes should enter the political arena and conduct themselves from day one with honesty, integrity and loyalty to their political party and Malaysians should learn to brook no nonsense from them.
Holding public office is an almost sacred position and politicians must revere and show utmost respect for the chair they sit on and the political party they are aligned to who gave them the ticket to sit in a public official’s position.
Not only is loyalty demanded of public officials and politicians but they must also be willing to roll up their sleeves and go to the ground to work hard and diligently for their efforts in serving the rakyat to pay off.
