The Minister of Science, Technology and Innovation (MOSTI), Chang Lih Kang yesterday launched the ezyCart, a smart shopping cart which is projected to be a game-changer in the retail industry at the Redtick Supermarket in Putrajaya.

The high-tech trolley is an example of local innovative output in the era of the 4th Industrial Revolution.

Lih Kang said, it is essential to contextualise the ezyCart project within the broader smart retail industry landscape.

“The revenue generated by smart retail shopping in the Asia Pacific region amounted to USD 8.38 bilion 2020. It is expected to soar beyond USD 25 bilion by 2025, capturing a significant 70 per cent market share of the global retail market.

“Furthermore, we anticipate a substantial growth trajectory within Malaysia’s smart retail market, with expectations exceeding RM1 bilion by 2025. These figures highlight the immense potential and the pivotal role that Malaysia can play in shaping the future of the smart retail industry,” he said.

EzyCart is a technology developed by NanoMalaysia Berhad, an agency under the MOSTI, in collaboration with Retailetics Sdn Bhd, a company providing artificial intelligence-based retail automation solutions. EzyCart offers a personalised shopping experience and was developed based on feedback from shoppers and retailers.

By incorporating Retailetic’s expertise in e-wallet-based market development and cloud computing solutions, the ezyCart presents many benefits to consumers and retailers.

Shoppers can now revel in a convenient shopping journey with features such a cart-mounted screen displaying product information, in-store promotions, and the option to make payments directly on the cart, eliminating the need for traditional checkout queues.
