Having character is everything
BY: CATHERINE SAW
“If you lose your wealth, you lose nothing. If you lose your health, you lose something. But if you lose your character, you lose everything,” by Woodrow Wilson.
This profound quote, a real pearl of wisdom, was spoken by Mr Woodrow Wilson, the 28th president of the United States of America who was instrumental in forming the League of Nations which is known as the United Nations now.
Mr Wilson was inspired to form the League of Nations after the massacre of millions of the earth’s population in the aftermath of World War 1 and was an astute statesman and leader who commanded the respect of people around the world.
For his contribution, Mr Wilson was awarded the Nobel Prize for Peace and he was a man of letters as well and his emphasis on the development of a person’s character has been analysed and studied by many scholars.
Character is everything and it is the prelude to a fulfilled and meaningful life that character education should be taught in nurseries, schools, colleges, universities, the public and private sector and at homes.
Character education should be taught everywhere in Malaysia to overcome the malaise of corruption and instil in people principles, values, convictions and belief that people will conduct all their affairs with the greatest integrity and honesty.
