Time to clear roads of traffic jams
BY: ERIC HO
While it’s a head scratching time for authorities responsible for ensuring that traffic congestion is under control, it looks like they are losing the battle as traffic in major cities and towns and highways are usually chock-a-block.
Malaysian seniors can reminisce and remember the days when roads were void of potholes and traffic was always smooth sailing which they recall with joy how much pleasure driving brought them back in the good old days.
The authorities are proposing a number of ways to ensure that traffic congestion is avoided especially during peak hours but these proposals have so far not yielded the results that are desired.
It’s time not just to build more roads and highways to ease traffic but to reduce the number of vehicles on the road and to make the use of public transport more affordable, convenient and comfortable by promoting seamless travel.
Public transport facilities like public buses, taxis and ehailing transport, the LRT, MRT, Monorail and KTM Komuter must work in concert and in unison so that people can connect and get to their destinations with ease and comfort.
Right now the traffic jams around the country are stressing people and it’s quite crazy the way people drive without courtesy and consideration for other road users especially the hapless pedestrians.
