A nation without a conscience
BY: ERIC HO
Malaysian dictator, Mahathir Mohammad, who during his first tenure as prime minister endorsed corruption as Standard Operating Procedure in government, during his second tenure as prime minister, described corruption as endemic in Malaysia.
The reason why Malaysia descended into endemic corruption is because the nation and people have lost its conscience, its awareness and insight into what is wrong and have since lost the plot by causing convolution in Malaysian life.
Let’s all face it and be honest by stating that life in this country is now both confused and confusing and chaos, bedlam, anarchy and mayhem is set to erupt if the powers that be do not take firm and decisive action to control the situation.
While, on one hand, the public infrastructure and material progress is in place, on the other hand, Malaysia has regressed terribly in many areas of life therefore giving a semblance of being advanced and developed.
Unfortunately, Malaysia is comparable to a Third World country, in reality, and no one takes pleasure in having to confess that this is the actuality and truth as life in the nation cannot even be considered civilised in many ways.
What Malaysians need to do is to awaken their conscience by learning to call a spade a spade and be honest, uphold integrity and truth and refrain from all manner of corrupt practices and adhere to the full tenets and obligations of democracy.
