Educate Malaysians on animal cruelty
BY: SYARIFAH SOFEA
The horrifying revelation of an eighteen year old Malaysian boy who beat a dog and set it on fire has shocked and unnerved people in the country and they are appealing to government authorities to educate people on being cruel to animals.
The boy is supposed to be given seven strokes of light caning in open court due to his age but Netizens are crying foul and want a deterrent sentence to be meted so as to ensure that people do not act cruelly towards animals.
In passing judgement, the judge cautioned and counselled the offender that animals have a right to live in peace and what he (the boy) did was totally unacceptable for which he fully deserves the caning.
But Malaysians can recount horror stories of cruelty to animals that have surfaced from time to time and therefore they are calling upon the authorities to tighten legislation to ensure that animals are cared for and protected.
This earth is a planet that belongs to all living things and this is why its inhabitants must show respect and tolerance for each other and allow every living thing to be able to live well until the natural expiry of their lives.
Malaysians must come together and be watchful and vigilant in ensuring that all acts of cruelty to basically helpless animals are nipped in the bud and do not fester and become a social ill which will be a crying shame for us.
