What should be done about bullying
BY: CHRISTOPHER FERNANDEZ
Malaysians of all walks of life are being exposed to some form of bullying and it has started to become a common occurrence and this is why the government must begin to set up a National Registry on Bullying.
Every segment of society is affected by bullying and it does not matter of a person’s socioeconomic status, his education level, his marital status or whatsoever. The fact is the bully and the bullied may come from any segment of society.
This is why it is important for a National Registrar on Bullying to be established and people should voluntarily come forward to share cases of bullying in schools, homes, colleges, universities and the private and public sector.
A bully is usually a person who has been bullied and this is why it is important to report cases to prevent a vicious cycle of bullying from being perpetrated. Both the bully and victim need counselling and advice.
A common form of bullying is road rage which can be very frightening and violent to the point that the road bully goes amok and loses all control of himself in a fit of madness. The media often highlight these events with videos.
For a safer and peaceful and harmonious environment a national publicity campaign needs to be undertaken by the government to educate Malaysians on the dangers and evils of bullying. The message needs to be strongly brought home.
