While there were massive celebrations on International Women’s Day, in Malaysia, it was low key and this is why women rights groups are advocating that more concerted forms of action be taken to ensure gender equality.
Are women really missing out on life in this country? It’s hard to say as there has not been any exhaustive studies done but a superficial look is suffice to say that there is oppression and unfairness suffered by women in this country.
Male chauvinism is largely to be blamed for this phenomenon and it is time that the egos of men be beefed up so as to not feel so easily threatened by high powered women who can challenge them on an equal footing.
Times have changed and it must be acknowledged that many and a growing number of women are proving their mettle although there is also a fraction of them who are overbearing by championing feminism and wanting to be completely apart from men.
But the fact is men and women need each other and they need to complement each other and not compete with each other but to work together to promote a harmonious relationship between the male and female species.
Everything will be well if men and women come to understand each other that they are supposed to complete each other in such a way and manner that they work closely hand in glove to lead this world to be a better place for everyone.
