Once again an Asian Tiger?

The 100 Day Report on the unity government of Malaysian prime minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim (DSAI) has been released and the outcome looks positive from all the vested parties who contributed to the input for the report.

While there were the detractors and the less sanguine, DSAI, now at the helm of government as the prime minister, has once again started to visualise an Asian Renaissance in which he envisions Malaysia emerging as an Asian Tiger.

Those who know DSAI understand where he is coming from but given the current economic stalemate it is hard for the nation to rise from the setbacks it has suffered over the last few years and to add to that gloom is the spectre of a global recession.

Is DSAI’s vision of Malaysia as an Asian Tiger just a dream or wishful thinking? While those in the ivory tower will support his sensations, feelings and notions of the country becoming prosperous and shaping up as a Great Nation, the ground realities speak volumes.

But DSAI is not entirely divorced from reality. There are glimpses that only an astute statesman will be able to capture a nation like Malaysia being a formidable force in the world and this is because of all the resources that are plenty and bountiful here.

But the faint hearted and the wary and cautious are beginning to emerge in this cautionary tale of Malaysia becoming an Asian Tiger and there are also rumblings of discord and discontent from Malaysians who consider DSAI’s vision nothing more than a romance.
