Who is of greater importance?
BY: MIZAN HAMZAH
Whenever school going children are asked if their parents or their teachers are of greater importance they appear to be in a muddle and are unsure as both parents and teachers are the major players in their life.
While the parent provides and cares for the student and equips him and gives him all that is necessary to succeed in his studies and later on in life, the teacher provides the teaching and the knowledge necessary to live life.
Both the parents and the teachers play interchangeable roles and both play vital roles for the successful upbringing of a child although there may be other influencers and role models in the life of children.
This is why through organizations like the Parents Teachers Association or PTAs, both parents and teachers should meet to chart the success of a student, and especially to assist him or her in areas of study and activities where the student is faring badly.
The school and the education ministry should act as guides to give direction and to focus on a student’s welfare and well being especially nowadays as to their psychological and mental health to ensure they excel.
In conclusion, both parents and teachers play an equally important role in the upbringing of a child but while the teacher may fade away into oblivion it is really the parents who will be with their child for the rest of their lives.
