Civil service practicing racism?
BY: ERIC HO
A furore was created recently when a Democratic Action Party (DAP) member stated that the Malaysian civil service was unbalanced in racial content and alleged that there was discrimination against non Malays.
Unless a person is colour blind, it is easy to understand where the DAP politician is coming from as the civil service seems to be a ‘Malay bastion’ with a smattering of Chinese and Indians being hired just to make up the numbers.
Moreover, the Malaysian civil service needs to be trimmed as they are bloated and overstaffed with about 1.6 million civil servants needed to serve a population of 32 million, whereas Australia with an economy five times the size of Asean can manage with about 200,000 civil servants.
This disparity is so obvious and many people complain that five civil servants do a job that requires the services of one worker thus lowering productivity and the taxpayers money is not being wisely managed.
This is why, although Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim stated that this is the personal view of the DAP politician and does not reflect the view of the political party, many netizens congratulate the DAP politician for highlighting and bringing out into the open this unfairness.
This gross unfairness and injustice of shunning non Malays goes back to 1970 when the New Economic Policy was initiated and for the sake of everyone this racist policy needs to be discarded once and for all and a right and proper approach developed.
