The sexuality of Anwar Ibrahim

A leading opposition politician has come out strongly to declare that Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim (DSAI) is ‘Malaysia’s first homosexual prime minister’, a controversial statement that has been met by widely conflicting views among people.
This allegation that DSAI is a homosexual stems from his sacking as deputy prime minister in 1998 by erstwhile prime minister Mahathir Mohammad who back then stated that “Anwar as deputy prime minister is a national security risk and can be blackmailed by people.”
While, in all fairness, DSAI has denied any involvement in homosexuality, this is really an issue that must be taken up by his wife with him, and in this case Wan Azizah has unflinchingly stood by her man.
However, like most Malaysians, DSAI has openly stated that he is a gay sympathizer and this must have surely gained him the support of the LGBTQ community who are now more vocal and appear to be increasing in numbers.
But is this, in today’s open societies, a real issue. Why Malaysians endorsed the prime ministership of DSAI is because he is a Malay leader who is capable and commands the respect and trust of the majority of Malaysians of all races.
The issue of his sexuality is a nonissue actually for Malaysians who want him to deliver and not renege on his general election manifesto to move the nation forward. Let Wan Azizah and his family deal with his sexuality.
