Malaysians are voicing concern over social media about the landslide at Batang Kali that, until 10 pm Dec. 16, has claimed 21 lives and caused many more to be injured in a tragedy that has left the nation shocked and in mourning.
Malaysian netizens have gone into overdrive appealing to authorities everywhere to halt outdoor holidaying activities as inclement weather in the country has made it dangerous and unsafe to be in the open.
It’s the year end school holidays and the period when many Malaysians plan and go on trips to escape into the great outdoors from the hustle and bustle of city and town life which has been the norm in this country.
But the weather is playing havoc and the Batang Kali campsite of Father’s Organic Farm had no licence to operate and failed other safety and security procedures and being only a 15 minute drive from the popular Genting Highlands resort it raises concern on the activities in the area.
Various government ministries, departments and agencies have highlighted the danger of camping on hillslopes and mountains and they fear that there are other areas prone to tragedies such as in Batang Kali occurring.
Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and various other federal Cabinet ministers are in Batang Kali to oversee Search & Rescue operations but the bad news is that unfavourable weather might cause these efforts to be called off diminishing hopes of saving lives.
