Climate change in Malaysia
In naming a somewhat smaller and leaner federal cabinet, Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim (DSAI) was prudent and wise but what many Malaysians in the know found baffling and hard to believe was the eclipse of the climate change ministry.
The weather in Malaysia is wreaking havoc now. Even MetMalaysia is unable to accurately predict the weather. This means rain or shine Malaysians are encouraged to always be armed with an umbrella.
Why DSAI omitted the need for a specific ministry of climate change shows a lack of understanding of the seriousness of the issue as globally climate change is causing a lot of harm and difficulty for people.
It is a serious agenda and to second it as a non-descript portfolio to a vague ministry shows that Malaysia is not enforcing the political will to bring it to the table to be discussed and debated on what needs to be done.
Already there is a lack of enforcement in bringing about changes to climate change, to reduce the effects and danger and the suffering, hardship and misery it causes us. Malaysia has to be more proactive in this mission.
Together and in unison with other countries, Malaysia must do its part to address global warming, the greenhouse gas effect or the reduction of carbon emission more remarkably in order that the weather can be more predictable and stable.
