Politicians should heed the call of Malay Rulers
The Yang Di Pertuan Agong or King and his brother Malay rulers in an audience with newly-appointed prime minister, Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, have stated in no uncertain terms their expectations of the unity government.
This is a timely step in the right direction and politicians of all stripes would do well to heed the call and counsel of the Malay Rulers as it is the result of many years of being in touch with the needs of the rakyat.
The Malay Rulers have emphasised the need for Malaysians to discard racial and religious extremism which they conclude is unhealthy for a multi-racial and multi-religious country like Malaysia.
They further stated that the executive must not interfere with the judiciary and the prime minister should have no say in the appointment of judges to ensure their independence and impartiality in judicial decisions.
Other instructions meted by the Malay Rulers include the fact that Malaysians should follow and adhere strictly to the Principles of the Rukun Negara which has stood the country so well for many decades.
The Malay Rulers hoped that with the formation of the unity government it will pave the way for the country to be on the way to progress, peace and prosperity so that every Malaysian will take pride and look forward towards Malaysia being a Great Nation.
