Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim (DSAI) is the 10th prime minister of Malaysia and is at the helm of a unity government led by his political party, Pakatan Harapan (PH), but political analysts hope that Perikatan Nasional (PN) will prove to be a formidable opposition.
Already Muhyiddin Yassin, as chairman of PN, and now making up the opposition bloc, has fired the first salvo by questioning the legitimacy of PH to be allowed to form the government and he has been answered in no uncertain terms by DSAI.
Muhyiddin ‘s strongest ally, Parti PAS, has given their supporters an assurance that they will not be part of the unity government and instead they hope to act as a check and balance or counterweight.
The unity government is at present seen by political analysts to be a loosely held together coalition and will need time to bind firmly and the coming weeks and months will determine if they will be able to gain strength and real unity.
With PN heading the opposition, it appears formidable and PH have to be careful how they maneuver the government and not renege on their election manifesto as it will create the fall or crackup of the unity government.
This is why from day one PN will have to keep the unity government on their toes and ensure full compliance in being accountable to the rakyat or otherwise PH will start to falter and give the opposition an opportunity to seize power.
