A ‘very sick’ 15th General Election?
BY: CHRISTOPHER FERNANDEZ
In the run up to the 15th General Election (GE) polls on November 19, the majority of Malaysians appear to have chosen to remain silent as many of them feel the ceramahs or hustings and canvassing for votes have simply gone overboard.
While Pakatan Harapan look to firm up their grip on power, whether this is a good omen or not for the country is viewed by right thinking Malaysians as an altogether separate matter, as the feeling on the ground is that Pakatan leaders are crazed by power and baying for blood.
On the other hand, Pakatan’s opponents are featured as criminals who want to come to power to escape scot free of being liable for corruption, crimes and other acts of wrongdoing and abuse of power.
Accusations are being hurled by many candidates of their opponents, lawsuits flying and police reports lodged as election fever grips the country in what is seen as politicians of all stripes causing Malaysians to fear the worst for the future of their country.
This is why many Malaysians are of the view that this is a ‘very sick’ general election and they wonder why leaders that are capable, with integrity and honesty, those who are decent, upright and honest are not being given the opportunity to contest in these elections.
The results of this election look to many Malaysians as having little bearing in ending the pull and push between politicians and their political parties which is therefore set to witness a prolonged state of stagnancy and for the rakyat to pray when they will be spared of all this political agony.
