The decision by the High Court to sanction Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi to enter his defence against corruption charges has been deemed as appropriate by the public.
High Court judge Justice Collin Lawrence Sequerah’s yesterday (Jan 24) briefly mentioned that he calls upon the accused, Zahid Hamidi, to enter his defence on all charges.
He added, there is also ‘no merit’ for the accused to be given immunity for truthfully disclosing information for the case.
Based on Section 30(7) of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission Act, those who disclose information to the MACC will not face prosecution only if it is the truth and not misleading statements.
Malaysians feel a sense of justice as some thought the case might get dismissed since UMNO is in the government.
Alfred Phing said, “This has to be one of the world’s most corrupted case and it was important for it to be just.”
He hopes by the time of the final judgement, the case is looked on in an unbiased manner without political motivation.
Herman Ho called Zhaid’s lawyer shameless as he previously claimed that there isn’t a case.
“His lawyer was so confident that there was no case from his previous statements. There were a lot of postponements before for various reasons and now they are still asking for more time,” he said.
This time he insists that the court needs to be firm on their stance and not allow them to disrespect the court.
Zahid has chosen the option to testify under oath on the witness stand with the prosecution given the opportunity to question the accused during cross-examination.
