Education Minister Datuk Dr Radzi Jidin has brushed away allegations that the Supplementary Food Programme (RMT) distributed a packet of rice and gravy to poor students.

According to him, a ministry representative went to the school to conduct a detailed investigation into the allegation that was circulated through a posting on Facebook.

He added, “We found that the shared picture was not the food provided for RMT recipients at the school.”

However, citizens are not convinced that the investigation was not done in the best manner.

Segaran Nair believes that the Ministry of Education needs to make an unannounced inspection of schools to verify such accusations.

“Going in with sirens blaring would give time to the schools to cover up their tracks,” he said.

Stanley Ling believes the government needs to release a more detailed explanation to definitively conclude that what he claims is true.

He said, “Sadly, given the growing trust deficit, merely contradicting an allegation is not enough.”

Stanley insists that whoever a was feeding the children with barebone meals needs to be punished as beggars get better food from sympathizers.

Radzi’s comments come after a mother had shared on Facebook that her child was given plain rice with gravy from the school under the RMT initiative.
