Physical driving tests will soon be phased out once the automated driving test or ‘e-testing’ is introduced sometime in April this year. Currently, the proposed e-testing system is undergoing a series of trials.

The Road Transport Department (JPJ) stated that those who take their driving test through the system will be able to get their results immediately as tests will be conducted in real-time.

JPJ said this will speed up the process tremendously compared to the previous two weeks waiting time to get the results of a driving test.

The e-testing system is also expected to reduce manpower once the simulated computerized driving test is conducted.

Currently, six to seven JPJ officers are needed during driving tests. E-testing will reduce the number of officers needed to two or three only.

The simulated driving test will be based on the current six-point physical driving test and the testing involves parking, uphill driving and three-point turn but all through simulations.

The system will be implemented gradually with an estimated 232 driving schools free to adopt etesting applications from service providers.
