How did umrah pilgrims travel without certified vaccinations?
Health Director-General, Tan Sri Dr. Noor Hisham Abdullah’s latest announcement about umrah pilgrims returning to Malaysia with Covid-19 has gotten Malaysians questioning why are some traveling without certified vaccinations.
In his press conference, Noor Hisham said, “From those clusters, seven had index cases that have been confirmed to be of the Omicron variant, with six index cases listed as presumptive Omicron cases pending the results of its whole-genome sequencing.”
He described the situation as ‘worrying’ because the Omicron variant is highly transmissible.
However, the Malaysians want answers to how unvaccinated pilgrims were allowed to leave the country.
Lilian Tan, a concerned citizen, said, “When is the Health Minister and Dr. Noor Hisham going to acknowledge the link of the fake vaccination certificates to the huge numbers of infected returning umrah pilgrims?”
She claimed that there has been a lack of thorough checking on the details that had led to the unvaccinated being mindless.
Rajamani Iyer reminds all pilgrims that umrah is performed for health, wealth and prosperity.
“It is not to bring Covid so think wisely as it affects all of our general welfare,” he said.
He suggested that Malaysia should not allow foreign entry for a while as strict measures were not placed at the right time.
Health Minister, Khairy Jamaluddin told recently that there were 12 umrah pilgrims infected with the Omicron variant who had no history of vaccinations.
