After politicians had baited the public with a religion issue on the Timah branding controversy, a decision has been made allowing the whiskey distiller to keep its label.
Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Minister Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi confirmed that the Cabinet had agreed on the matter but with a condition.
The distiller would be required to elaborate on the bottle that Timah is in reference to ‘bijih timah’, translating to iron ores.
The conclusion to the unnecessary debate is seen as a relief to the public, accusing politicians of being unsensible.
Pete Ho said, “This is what happens when you have a bunch of petty-minded ‘Kepochi’ ministers and government officials running the country who got nothing else better to do.”
Instead of spending time and taxpayers’ money in pursuing the label, he preferred if matters like corruption and drug abuse were as enthusiastically tackled.
Raymond Noel praised the decision because it meant that common sense had prevailed.
He claimed that if the decision was otherwise, the government could have been liable for the Winepak Corporation’s losses.
“What would have happened to Coca-Cola sales if the company was forced to change its name to just Cola,” he said.
