Improve 4G connectivity before promising Malaysians 5G internet

The Communications and Multimedia Minister social media post asking Malaysians to imagine watching YouTube in 1080p smoothly with the help of 5G has been criticised.

Tan Sri Annuar Musa on Twitter publicly asked if the Keluarga Malaysia was ready for 5G, confidently adding that it is coming in the near future.

However, his statements were quickly criticised as people questioned if he knows the state of 4G networks.

Alfred Soong called Musa a dinosaur and said, “Forget about the superior performance. Upgrade 4G connectivity first so that every nook and corner of Malaysia can enjoy the fast internet connection.”

He added that there is nothing to smile about when the internet access in rural areas is terrible.

Benny Foo was also disappointed that 4G has bad performance and is tired of complaining to mobile operators over the issue.

“How can we know if you can deliver on the promises of 5G?” he asked.

To install 5G towers require huge funding which means it comes from taxpayers’ money.

The Ketereh Member of Parliament had responded to the ‘concerns’ claiming that his statements were only scratching the surface of 5G capabilities.

“The possibilities are endless. Our imagination is the only limit,” he said.
