A 26-year-old Sarawakian working in Singapore as a nurse has emotionally returned home after two long years as Singapore opens its borders to Malaysia.

Tracy Jantom, on Twitter, recalled her experience being confined in Singapore as “mentally exhausting.”

In her post, she said, “I would like to thank all Malaysians who got vaccinated! Because of you, I got to go home.”

The frontline worker who had not seen her family for two years was in tears as her emotions got the better of her as she thinks back of the struggles she had gone through the pandemic.

She said, “I used to want to give up and leave everything behind but somehow I made it until today. That was why I cried in the plane, unknowingly.”

Tracy felt excited initially but as the plane took off, she felt sentimental.

She added that she had numerous mental breakdowns and it was mentally exhausting to be separated from family for a long time without being assured that she could go to Sarawak.

Malaysians on social media were glad that one of their own were able to return back to the country.

Robert Ng was so proud of Tracy and welcomed her home to Malaysia with a salute.

He said, “You’ve done a great job and had also devoted your time and sacrifices to it. We are all proud of you, our dear Malaysian.”

Greg Bajien, a Sarawakian, expressed that he was able to relate to her experience as he has not been home for over two years.

He added that she is a hero and deserves to be back home with her family and to rest.

He accused some of the Singaporeans who had commented negative words of being an ungrateful arrogant bunch.

On Monday (Nov 8), Malaysia and Singapore had announced travel lanes between the nations to allow travel without quarantine for fully vaccinated individuals.
