A video has gone viral on Twitter of a Barisan Nasional candidate for the Melaka elections struggling to answer a Bahasa Melayu question posed by journalists.

The candidate, Leong Hui Ying, was pressed on the theme ‘stability for prosperity’ that is used by Barisan Nasional during their campaigning.

Her reply was filled with disfluencies, stammering with “erm” hoping to conjure up a viable response.

In a desperate attempt, the Kesidang seat challenger looked to someone on her right telling, in Chinese, that she does not know the answer to the question. Her incompetency has sparked criticism of her ability to communicate well with the voters of her constituency.

Kifli Lim thinks that it’s ridiculous for people to let the 29-year-old be because she is young and novice to politics.

He said, “If you want to serve the people and want to be a leader, you need to be good in our national language.”

The quality of MCA members is under scrutiny as they see Leong unfit to battle for a Parliamentary seat.

On Nov 2, the party President, Datuk Seri Ir. Dr. Wee Ka Siong, praised her and called her a ‘weapon’ and a breath of fresh air.

Muhaimin Shahruddin disagreed as her best answer when pressured was a mere “I will try my best.”

He blasted her and said this is not a UPSR exam, rather these questions are about citizens.

Although Leong had recently published a video of her speaking in Malay, Muhaimin was not bothered as she was reading off a script adding that she had difficulties pronouncing some words.
