The Road Transport Department (JPJ) wants the public to look out for ‘fancy’ number plates but the people are questioning why are they tasked to.
JPJ in a recent Facebook post said, “People are advised to report any vehicle that has a confusing, vague or ‘fancy’ registration number.”
They added that a complaint should be submitted with vehicle photos and relevant details.
However, the post has raised the question if the authorities do not have adequate resources to capture the culprit themselves.
Bruce Wong said it would be easy for JPJ to catch these number plates.
He claimed that in Putrajaya there are plenty of such number plates.
“How are you not unable to find those in Putrajaya?” he asked.
Bruce added that it is not the role of taxpayers to catch those violating the law.
Ridz Syaz accused the authorities of posting help for a ‘roadshow’.
“Aren’t the cars with fancy number plates owned by the rich, yet somehow they are the ones sparred,” he said.
He also mentioned that we have seen similar warnings before but the cases are never-ending which includes tinted windows.
“This is a lack of reinforcement that led to a bigger issue,” he said.
