Parents of late marine cadet still hurt but forgives perpetrators

The father of the late mare cadet, Zulkarnain Idros, has forgiven those accused of killing his son although it was one of the toughest things to do.

The young cadet, Zulfarhan Osman Zulkarnain, had died from injuries caused by six other people using a steam iron, burning him. He was also beaten and tortured for two days with a belt, rubber hose and hanger by the university students.

The alleged reason was Zulfarhan stole a laptop from his supposed friends.

The father, however, was disappointed that nobody from the accused families came to apologise on behalf of their sons.

He said, “Only one family came to apologise. The rest always tried to avoid us whenever we met in court during proceedings.”

Hawa Osman, the mother, emotionally said, “I miss him very much. He would have been 25 years old on Nov 29 if he was still alive.”

Despite saddened, she praised Allah for giving them patience and perseverance.

Several Malaysians are urging the government to look into the bully and hierarchy culture in public universities.

One of them, Bryan Lee a graduate from University Putra Malaysia, shared that it is inevitable to be nudged around by seniors thinking they need to be respected.

He recalled being insulted, bullied and physically tormented, claiming that the seniors label it as ‘tradition’.

The scarred Malaysian also mentioned that it was useless to report to the authorities as if fell on deaf ears.
