Malaysians back Ain Husniza to speak at UNICEF Conference
Student activist Ain Husniza has received the support of Malaysians to speak at the Inspire Conference held by the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF).
Her father had posted on Facebook that his daughter would be one of six panelists on the subject of children’s rights on October 30.
She will be accompanied by the special representative of the United Nations Secretary-General Dr. Najat Maalla M’jid.
Maheswari Jaganathan, a proud Malaysian, said, “Now no one can stop you from speaking your mind and heart out. Happy UNICEF has chosen you, well deserve for being courageous to reveal the issue at a grassroot level.”
She added when politicians are busy arguing over whiskey labels, citizens are working towards solving issues that need addressing.
Ain in her speech will be bringing up her views and suggestion on the current situation of children’s rights in Malaysia.
This includes access to quality education, improving the level of safety in schools, mental well-being and policies.
Shanti Balakrishnan admires the courage of a young girl to go on an international stage and offer her hand to combat the crisis.
“Takes lots of guts to do what you did and lots of honour for your voice to be heard,” she said.
The regional event will be livestreamed on UNICEF’s Facebook from November 1 to November 5 titled ‘Ending Violence Against Children During Covid-19 and Beyond’.
