Lenovo Malaysia Empowers Local Communities Through CSR Initiatives Amidst The Ongoing Pandemic

Lenovo Malaysia announced its recent CSR initiatives to support the local communities amidst the ongoing pandemic focused on giving students support through education technology workshops and donation of medical supplies for the frontliners. 

The initiatives are in line with Lenovo’s commitment to empowering communities through technology and opportunity. Lenovo worked carefully to identify areas of support and respond to the unique needs of each community, primarily in the Education and Healthcare sectors. 

In line with Lenovo’s global initiative, “Love on” Global Month of Service, Lenovo Malaysia engaged local employees in advancing educational opportunities for under-resourced communities through providing access to technology and STEM education. As part of the initiative, Lenovo Malaysia conducted the Micro:bit Virtual Coding Experience Workshop with Sekolah Kebangsaan (SK) Kiaramas, Kuala Lumpur in July 2021.

The six-week-long workshops saw the participation of 300 primary school students from Years 4, 5 and 6. Lenovo also donated 322 units of Micro:bit sets to the school to continue encouraging technology in STEM education. 

Lenovo also empowered young leaders of the future through the ‘How Will AI Change the Future’ Virtual Webinar in collaboration with Microsoft, Malaysia Research Institute for Vocational Education and Training (MyRIVET), Universiti Tun Hussein Onn Malaysia (UTHM), and Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM). The webinar with industry experts was held in November 2020, benefitted over 500 undergraduates from the participating universities.

To support the frontliners, Lenovo Malaysia contributed Personal Protective Supplies (PPE) to the Hospital Canselor Tuanku Mukhriz UKM (HCTM UKM). The donation included 10,000 pieces of surgical masks, 100 face shields, and 100 pieces of isolation gowns and successfully benefited more than 4,500 healthcare workers at the hospital.
